About Jan Price
Welcome to my website. I am Jan Price, and I am a lifelong resident of the Glen Lake community. I attended the brick schoolhouse in Glen Arbor as a fourth-grade student and graduated from Glen Lake High School. I went on to pursue a career in Nursing and worked at Munson Hospital in the Critical Care Unit for 43 years. I married Bob from South Carolina, and fortunately for me, he never wanted to go back! We raised our son and daughter here, and now live in different parts of the country.
Growing up here was very different without neighborhoods of kids close by, so my sister and I spent a lot of time outdoors- on the lake in the summer, riding bikes, and skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. My grandmother said that we grew up in paradise, and I don’t think she was wrong! Consequently, I love the woods, shorelines, dunes, and water. This is where I feel most at home.
As a teen, I drew with pen and ink, watercolor, and even ventured into oil painting. I had to give up my artistic expression while working full-time and raising our family. Now that I’m retired, the old longing to create the outdoors on paper came back. I was introduced to pastel painting, and have never looked back. I have taken classes from Linda Dewey, Margo Burian, and international pastelist Heidi A. Marshall. Recently, I studied with Barbara Reich. I love the vibrancy and sparkle that pastels provide, and want to continue to paint the outdoors of Northern Michigan that I cherish so much!
Most of my paintings are 9x12” or 12x16” in image size, with frames adding another 4 to 6” per side. Pastels need to be framed under glass, and so to preserve the paintings, most are framed under museum glass. If you dislike the frame, I can remove it and discount the painting. I do limited commissions, and you can always ask. Also, some of the paintings are available as prints.
Thanks for visiting my website and you can always reach out with questions.
